COVINGTON TWP, Pa., October 25th, 2024 – Starting sophomore year, students are able to attend CTC which is also known as the “Career Technology Center.” In order to attend this program, students need to take a bus to get there or drive themselves with a license. Some students go in the morning while others go in the afternoon. If a student were to miss the bus, what happens to them for the day? Do they get a free pass from school?
In order for all the students to make the CTC bus, there is a special education teacher that takes attendance and he is in charge of where they need to be. Mr Strempek is currently in his fifth year doing special education at North Pocono. Previously he was at the district “Standing Timbers Academy,” which is a reform school in Gouldsboro. Strempek says, “it’s not very often that kids miss the CTC bus as long as AM students get to school by 7:40 and PM students go to the foyer during 5th period lunch.” Strempek is also in charge of giving the buses signals to leave. Currently there are two full buses of students. When the buses leave, and a student that goes to CTC were to not make it, the buses have to turn around. If it’s too long after the buses leave, the student doesn’t go to CTC for the day. Strempek says, “ I like to say that I have an enlarged larynx, which makes my voice hard not to hear on the microphone but some students still like to stay after I make the announcement and frantically come running to the foyer.” It’s easier to miss the PM CTC bus than the AM. Most students happen to go to AM CTC. Though the bus is what most students take to CTC, driving is also an option. As long as you get a parking pass for CTC, driving there is not a problem.
good !! strong info
Junior Mcgee Toy, a junior, has missed the CTC bus several times. Mcgee takes the PM CTC bus and leaves halfway through his lunch. Most days, Toy is not paying attention to when the announcements are being made. Recently, Mcgee missed the bus and it had come back for him. Toy says, “when I’m talking to my friends I get distracted a lot and can’t hear Mr Strempek.” Mcgee has been at CTC for two years now. Last year, he did not go to PM CTC. He also has his drivers license but chooses not to drive. Mcgee says, “it’s too much gas to drive to school then to CTC then back to school.”
Going to CTC is an amazing option for students who are interested. As long as they are able to take the bus, they will be able to get to CTC on time. For most students, it would require them getting to school on time, for others it would require paying closer attention to Mr. Strempek’s announcement!
