COVINGTON TWP, PA., October 11, 2024- A crucial issue that many struggle with is managing time. Time management is so incredibly important when becoming an independent adult. When learning to manage your time well at an early age, it sets more reassurance when growing older.
The most difficult obstacle for students when managing time is balancing extracurricular activities and school work. After discussing this topic with varsity soccer athlete Andrew Geck, he has a few things to add- “As a student athlete, I find it hard to manage my time usefully. I think my biggest problem with managing my time is when I get home from practice, I am tired and decide to wait to do my work. I start it late, and then I have no motivation to do it.” What are some teenagers’ biggest conflicts when it comes to time management? Andrew states, “I think one of the biggest problems with time management for teens is social media.” Social media has made such an impact on this generation, but the question is, for the better or worse?
After having the same debrief with varsity volleyball captain, Mariah Wolff, it is clear that she doesn’t seem to struggle as much. “For the most part, they are pretty efficient and I manage my workload and athletic schedule well. Because I prioritize my sleep and health, I am able to use that as motivation to complete tasks that can keep me from meeting my goals.” Although Mariah sounds to have a pretty tight schedule, she still has moments when she needs a break and relaxation. “Like any athlete, definitely. There are many days where I am so exhausted and need a mental break from work to decompress. Oftentimes, I focus on that a little too hard which makes it harder for me to find the willpower to complete homework after a long day of school and practice.”
Time management is no easy task to take on, but an important one to try and improve. Whether someone is good or bad at it, it is not escapable. No matter what the circumstances are, this skill should always be taken into consideration when taking on a responsibility or task. By adjusting and fixing students’ time management skills day by day, they might see a difference without even putting in a lot of extra effort.
