COVINGTON TWP, Pa., Nov. 1, 2024 – Many students typically enjoy the Halloween season. It’s a way to express themselves through costumes and to hang out with friends. Here at North Pocono, students have a tradition for the seniors to dress up in school- appropriate costumes. But this comes with strict rules and regulations for the students’ safety.
The school principal, Mr. Ron Collins, has certain rules that students should follow because he wants his students to be safe and protected at all times. He stated, “The thing that is the biggest concern is the face coverings. Myself and the officer have to be able to identify the students coming into the school in the morning to make sure they are a student here.” Mr. Collins then went on to explain how he liked the students to have a good time, but still care about their safety. He would not want something to go wrong and not be able to identify the people in the situation. His students’ safety is his top priority, but he still wants them to enjoy themselves.
Junior Pia Zangardi loves everything Halloween. She wishes she could dress up with her friends at the school, but she stated, “Yeah, I do wish I could dress up, but it gives me something to really look forward to my senior year.” She then continued to say how she likes to see how the seniors dress up every year. It’s almost like a costume inspiration for when it’s her time to shine. Zangardi does see where Mr. Collins is coming from with the face covering issue, she stated, “Well, if something were to happen to me or one of my friends, I would want to know who it is.” She elaborated on how someone who isn’t even a student here could just come into school and no one would realize it if there weren’t these rules in place.
Even though some students might not like or agree with the rules for dressing up, it’s better to be safe than sorry in a bad situation. It’s nice to see a principal that cares about students’ well-being while letting them have fun with their friends. These rules that are set in stone might help others feel comfortable with dressing up without having the fear of an intruder getting into the building.
