About the Contributors
Max Malec, Year 3
Max Malec is a Trojan T.V. anchor and a Trojan Voice Newspaper staff writer, with experience in and a deep love for sports and sports journalism. Max’s background consists of various camps including the Penn State Donald P. Bellisario Broadcast Journalism Summer Camp and The Washington Journalism and Media Conference hosted by George Mason University. Through these experiences, he has been able to strengthen his knowledge in the areas of physical and digital media and journalism. Max’s deep passion for sports and sports journalism is what keeps him driven to accomplish some of the highest goals in the business. These goals consist of being an analyst of ESPN’s CollegeGameday and being a play-by-play announcer for any of the major networks. In addition, Max has an interest in constantly learning more about the field of journalism as a whole and how he can make himself, as well as those around him, better.
Max is a firm believer in the concept of hard work beats talent and everything that success is earned, not given. While Max has no shortage of talent, his constant desire to be better and improve those around him make him successful.
Emma Hollenbeck, Year 2
Emma Hollenbeck is an eleventh grade student whose passion is writing and expressing her creativity. Emma’s interests led her to join the journalism program at her high school, where she has written many articles and appears on the weekly school news broadcast Trojan TV. What she loves most about journalism is working together with a group to create incredible projects. Emma considers herself a talented writer, and she enjoys coming up with article topics that people will be interested to read about. Her favorite articles she has written are titled “Creating worlds from words” and “A week of awareness.”
Currently in her junior year of high school, Emma believes she has improved in journalism since her first year of taking the class. She has learned many skills in editing and filming for class projects. Also, Emma has met new people with whom she enjoys working in the school studio. She believes that if someone follows his/her passion, it will not be regretted.
Emma joined journalism in the first place because of her interest in the writing field, and she even enjoys writing stories of her own. Emma plans on continuing journalism for her senior year of high school, and she hopes to make new friendships along the way.
Charley Carucci, Year 1
Charley Carucci is a junior and first year Journalism student. Charley joined the class to help improve her writing skills. So far she enjoys the environment of the class. It makes her feel more independent rather than just a teacher hovering around. She also took the class to improve her social skills. Interviewing people will really help her get out of her comfort zone. Charley also does dance outside of school for 13 years and counting. She has future goals to attend college to become a physician assistant. As of right now Charley enjoys Journalism and will hopefully go on to take the class again next year.
