Senior year superstars

COVINGTON TWP, Pa., Oct. 11, 2024- As the leaves change color and the air becomes more crisp, it is obvious that the season of fall is in full swing. This quick change of the weather also means that fall sports are slowly coming to a close. The departure of fall sports can bring on many different emotions, especially for the senior athletes participating. This week, seniors Natalie Pagotto and Kara Erickson will be representing first and second singles in the individual district tournament for North Pocono, as they are ready to take one last swing at victory.
District matches are not only more difficult than regular season matches because of the elevated competition, but because of the single-elimination factor. Once a player loses, there are no second chances, and that player is sent home. With their season concluding, senior singles player Kara Erickson stated, “In districts, you can’t rely on your teammates to help bring in a win for the team. It’s all up to you.” Pressure also plays a huge role in districts, especially for the senior competitors; losing a district match means it is the last time they will put on a North Pocono Tennis uniform and compete.
Coach Seitzinger has been coaching the tennis team for three years and has high hopes for the tournament. “The whole team has worked really hard this year and put themselves in a position for success. Hopefully they play with confidence and perform to their own expectations.” The team has been practicing since July, and they are excited to show off their skills obtained by their hard work and dedication from the preseason training.
The districts for singles players will take place this Friday, October 11th, at Kirby Park in Wilkes- Barre. Players participating in the tournament for either singles or doubles have been practicing every weekday after school. Natalie Pagotto is a senior and four year member of the tennis team; “We have high hopes for Friday. Practices have been intense, but I’m excited to see how we perform against solid competition.” When competing at the district level there will be no “easy” matches, so the girls must come in ready to bring their A game!
