COVINGTON TWP, Pa., Oct. 18, 2024- As the regular season for volleyball comes to an end, the Lady Trojans still stand undefeated. They are favored to win the league and go pretty far in districts. With only one senior leaving last season, the team stays even stronger and wants to defend the title.
Pia Zangardi, junior libero for the Lady Trojans, talks about how excited she is for the end of the regular season. “I get excited every year when it comes to the end of the season because I love the high intensity play for the district playoff.” Pia has been the starting libero for the last two years and even got to play in the district final last year. “Playing in the final was such a fun experience and winning it was even better. Zangardi talks about how great it is to be undefeated in the Lackawanna League, “Finishing the regular season out undefeated gives us a great push for districts and it is great to have another championship under our belts.”
Celia DeCesare, junior outside hitter for the team, speaks about how special this team is this year. “At times we say the team last year would have just given up, but this year is different. The drive and effort this team shows is so good to see.” The last time the Lady Trojans won the league championship was in 2020. At the end of this week, hoping the games go their way, they will win it again four years later by being undefeated. Celia said, “Winning the league and then going into districts undefeated is going to be very challenging. This holds a lot of pressure, but with how confident we are, I see gold coming our way.”
The girls’ finish the end of the league on Thursday with a game against Mid Valley High School at home for senior night. After that the team has one more regular season game on Saturday against a well-coached Holy Redeemer volleyball team. Then it is the kick right into playoffs for the District Championship. The team hopes to end this week undefeated and to go right into playoffs ready to go!
