COVINGTON TWP, Pa., October 11, 2024- The Buddies Club has made so many improvements recently. With some teachers and ambassadors leaving, they turned that right around. The Buddies club is not just “another” club, they make everyone feel included and feel so welcomed.
Matthew Brown, a second year ambassador talks about the new help added. “The new ambassadors have brought fresh energy to the club and are starting to get involved. While they’re still getting the hang of things, their presence has already helped spread awareness, and I’m excited to see how they’ll continue to contribute as they settle into their roles.” Brown speaks on the big plans the buddies have for this year, “Our plan this year is to make sure everyone is involved for the right reasons, focusing on building genuine connections and making the experience fun for everyone. We want our field trips, Special Olympics, and parties to be not just events, but opportunities for everyone to feel included and enjoy themselves.”
Madison Harding, a first year ambassador for the club talks about what she can do to improve from last year, “I think if we all communicate our ideas and work as a team the club will be very successful this year. To make the club stronger than last year we will definitely be paying attention to the active members in the club, the ones who participate and show what the club really means to them. Being more organized and having open communication with our advisers will also be a big part of the club this year.” Harding speaks on more events that she wants to add to the Buddies club, “Last year our bowling trip was a huge success and I think we should definitely do that again this year, as well as the special olympics and the polar plunge. Hopefully this year we can try to hold more events in our gym. If we did a day with fun and easy events with the members in the club and the buddies it would be a great way to include everyone.”
With all the changes in the club, and adding more people the Buddies seem to have the rest of the year planned out. One thing they do want to see is “maintaining good friendships with the buddies, making them feel included and feel comfortable and just say “hi” when you see them in the hallway,” says Brown and Harding. A high five or fist pump or even just a how’s your day can make a difference in someone’s day.
