COVINGTON TWP, Pa., October 18, 2024- This cross country season seems to be one of the best seasons for the runners ever! With a winning record of 11-5, and the last meeting coming up, they intend to put all of their effort into making it a fantastic last meet.
This season must have something good in the air. Junior Amelia Bell had the best season she has ever had. She has been a runner since the 7th grade and ran cross country every year. With Districts coming up October 23rd, Amelia is bringing her A-game. She says, “I am not holding back at Districts and will give it everything I got.” Amelia PRed this season with a best time of 22.21. Though she had a fantastic season, she also cannot wait for it to come to an end. Amelia says, “my body is starting to hurt from all the hard practices and meets every week.” Her least favorite part about the practices is having to run a mile to warm up everyday. Especially with districts coming up, the runners are being pushed even harder. Once the season is over, Amelia has many friends she can hang out with from cross country. Whenever the runners have to do workouts, they are usually distance sets. This gives Amelia and the other girls lots of time to talk to one another.
The last official meet is October 16th, against Riverside and Old Forge, at Valley View. This meet is one of the easier meets for the runners. According to Junior McKayla Yeager, some of the harder meets are against Abington and Crestwood. McKayla says, “Crestwood wins Districts every year, they are unbeatable.” McKayla has also made Districts this year. She has been running since the 3rd grade, back when Jack Rabbits was a running program. “I have been having a really awesome season with a PR of 24.09.” All of the hard workouts that the runners have to do pay off. McKayla’s “least favorite workout” is striders. Striders are sprints with long strides. She is excited for the season to be over just so she doesn’t have to do these until next season.
The girls hope to come back stronger than ever their senior year, for the best season yet! With only States and Districts left in the season, all runners will be spending the next few weeks preparing for the challenging meets. Otherwise, the best cross country season for some of the runners is coming to an end.
