As spring sports season slowly came to an end the Boys’ Volleyball team had a rollercoaster season. With a new coach being added in the middle of the season and team conflict the boys’ never gave up. The boys finished the league season with a record of (1-9) and an overall record of (1-13). Now the boys will fight for one more game on senior night to finish the season on a high.
Senior varsity outside hitter Francesco Leo, expresses his last four years on the team. “One thing that I will never forget from my volleyball career are the friendships that I have gained with my fellow teammates. From my freshman year to my senior year, I appreciate each friendship I have made and hope to continue to support one another as we move ahead in our lives.” This season for Francesco was thrown a curve ball when finding out the team was getting a new coach. “My season, overall, was filled with challenges, but transitioning mid season with a new coach was an incredible experience.” Playing this year with one new coach changed Leo into a better player.” I feel that I learned so much from each challenge and grew personally into a better version of myself.” The boys’ new coach turned the team right around when joining. “Coach Zero immediately created a team oriented atmosphere and turned our program into one of the best learning experiences I’ve ever had in volleyball.”
Senior varsity setter Jason Castrogiovanni, talks how not having a huge successful season shows that it won’t break a team. “My year overall could be summed up as alright. Until the last few games, the year was difficult and taxing, but with the last few weeks, it has gotten alot better and more fun.” Jason has a strong bond with Coach Zero and finding out she would be the new coach showed him the rest of the season will be successful. “Having Coach Zero has helped the team in many ways. Not only did it bring the team together to have a coach who really valued things other than just flashy talent, but things like effort, leadership, and teamwork.” As Jason’s time flew from freshman to senior year, the memories he made will last with him forever. “ I will never forget our tournament from last year. it was probably the only time until Coach Zero came in that it felt the team was a team and was whole.”
As explained, this season was filled with ups and downs but the team never gave up once. With only one win to their season, Leo states “With that one win the team still wanted to get better, and I think we’ve grown so much through it.” Now the season will close and these players all learned something this year. “I wouldn’t change my final senior season for a thing with all the memories and mental toughness I learned. I’m so grateful for a successful senior season,” stated Jason.
