COVINGTON TWP, Pa., September 27, 2024- Every year the Lady Trojans take on the Lady Bucks for a competitive league match. It is not “just” another game, it is the Dig Pink Game. The girls play for a cure of breast cancer, and all the money they raise from the game they donate to Breast Cancer Charity.
Senior Mariah Wolff loves playing in this game every year because of the background of the game itself. “Seeing the stands filled with pink and all the fans coming out to support the cause is just great to see,” says Wolff. Both teams try to raise money by doing fifty-fifty raffles, a serving race, and basket raffles. “I love just seeing the support this game gets, but I love playing in it even more, it is more than just a game.” The game is normally held in October during Breast Cancer awareness month but this year it’s earlier. “I’m not mad about it not happening in October but it definitely will be different.”
Senior Soyer Delucy talks about how every year she looks forward to this game. “This game is so fun to play in one because Dunmore is one of our rivals but it is just a great game every year.” Delucy talks about the emotions this game brings to the team, “Not only is it a high intensity game but it could be very emotional for some of the players.” Each year both teams have a paper that says “I’m playing for.” A lot of the players will just put a cure but some put relatives, friends, or someone important to them. “Seeing the papers each year is just so heart warming and so sweet to see,” says Delucy.
Each year both of the teams bring high intensity, but not just to get the win. This game isn’t just another match, it is the game for a cure. At the end of the day, the Lady Trojans and Lady Bucks come together for a wonderful cause.
